Re: Should it have been a red?
Well it was as soft a penalty as some of my 13.5 years old latest shits... Cresswell put himself in shit as soon as he put his hands on Dembele... don't touch him and it takes a red out of the equation... and agree with a lot on here if it happened up the other end there would be plenty screaming for a pen... and yes if it was given... again it would be soft. Was pretty fucked off with Zouma... his man he's let go there... and he's literally jogged back... if he had made a real attempt and busted a gut to help out Cresswell would it have been a different outcome?? Who knows...??

Re: Should it have been a red?
The problem was the guy dived.
If he had checked the VAR monitor he would have seen that.
It maybe a foul to impede a player, I get that. But what Cresswell did wasn't enough to stop him. Their player dived so its actually simulation and their player should have been penalised really.

But cos the ref is so up his own arse he didnt want to double check his own decision, even in a game as important as this.

Thats the way I see it anyway.

Spot on Tak.

He (ref) shouldnt have been anywhere near a game of such importance.

Bit like gettig Saville to babysir.

Re: Should it have been a red?
I usually research referees before a game, but didn't bother before this game. I'll admit, I wasn't surprised to find out he'd been banned before. It was clear something wasn't right when he kept stopping play whenever one of their players decided he wanted a lie down. In regard to the red, his instant movement towards the pocket with no question of getting a second opinion of looking at it cemented my view that he was bent as fuck (and this, before checking out his corrupt past). That UEFA allows such shif not just back in the game, but then gives them prestigious matches in the closing rounds of competitions shows how completely fucked the leadership is in football

Re: Should it have been a red?
I’d have been screaming for a red up the other end too, and if we had got one I’d be well happy that the referee fucked up so badly.

If it had been at the other end, i'd have been screaming for a red

Re: Should it have been a red?
What happened with sending off incident shouldn’t have mattered because bowen was barged off the ball up the other end. The ref was a fucking disgrace . How the fuck a ref that was suspended for match fixing can take charge of a quarter final sums up the state of football at the moment.

Re: Should it have been a red?
the lyons bloke diving to earn a penalty or a free kick was worthy of a yellow

Re: Should it have been a red?
No, it was never a red

Re: Should it have been a red?
Same as claret - I was at the opposite end of the incident and whilst everyone in and around thought it was deifnitely not a red, it looked dubious from our view so I thought it could well be a red.

But looking back, it wasn't.

Do they not use VAR in the knockout stages? Not that I would have trusted that ref to get it right even after reviewing it on a screen.

Re: Should it have been a red?
I'd appeal absolutely anything involving that referee.

He is a well-known joke in German football and, as has been pointed out by many, has also served a ban for his part in a match-fixing scandal. It is nonsense to suggest he was the selfless whistle-blower in the case, too: he took money to hush up the scandal.

He's a wrong un. Only an organisation like UEFA would allow him to ref games that badly with impunity.

RichyP 9:55 Fri Apr 8
Re: Should it have been a red?
As it was a straight red, can we appeal it?

Re: Should it have been a red?
No goose. They never have same refs for 2 legged ties.

Re: Should it have been a red?
Is it the same ref for the second leg?

RichyP 9:16 Fri Apr 8
Re: Should it have been a red?
Also, what about the throw in Lyon fucked up in the 2nd half? Ball bounced on the pitch so was in play but the ref bizarrely chose to
Ignore the rules and let them take it again? It was one bent decision after another!

Re: Should it have been a red?
Bowens yellow was hard to understand as well.
Also I thought a couple of corners for us were given as goal kicks. Especially, one of Antonio's shot that hit a defender and out for a corner. Strange.

Re: Should it have been a red?
It wasn’t a red, but I don’t buy into any of the conspiracy’s either, not sure how VAR is implemented in these European games, they don’t show them like they do in the PL so you don’t know if it was even reviewed or not?

But Cresswell should have known better and a bit naïve IMO, should have kept his hands away from Dembele, as soon as he felt that touch he went down like he had been stabbed, the wink when the red card came out tells you everything you need to know about the incident, not sure how appeals work in these comps or if they can be lodged to get it rescinded?

1-1 it is, but all very much to play for, reckon we will get through as well, Moyes will have them fired up and hungry like the Seville game.

jfk 6:57 Fri Apr 8
Re: Should it have been a red?
A foul possibly but a straight red absolutely never.Part of their game plan was to dive and play act at every given opportunity.I’d never want cheating to be part of ours, quite how a ref with previous form of match fixing was ever allowed to referee a game of this stature is beyond me.
German fucking cunt.

grasshopper 6:24 Fri Apr 8
Re: Should it have been a red?
Of course it’s not a red, but Lyon and the ref knew what they were doing.
